ITANAGAR, Jul 28: Claiming that the heavy downpour on Friday night has damaged the colony road, standing crops of WRC fields, agri/horti gardens, parked cars, RCC buildings, and protection walls worth crores of rupees at Mudirijo, the Mudirijo Welfare Society (MWS) has requested the state government to provide immediate relief to the flood victims.
State government should come up with plans to avert these kinds of furies instead of doing just paper works, it said.
32 tested Hepatitis B positive
ITANAGAR, Jul 28: Altogether 495 people were tested for hepatitis-
A team of doctors led by medical superintendent Dr Kesang W Thongdok provided information and conducted awareness programme regarding hepatitis viruses and the diseases caused by them.
Out of the many patients screened, 32 were found to be Hepatitis B positive. The blood of the Hepatitis B positive patients will be sent for HBV DNA Quantitative analysis for further confirmation outside the state.
The HBV DNA Quantitative analysis which is quite costly will be done at a discount price of nearly 70% less than the original cost, which is being arranged by Heema Hospital along with Zydus Heptiza.
‘NHPC maintaining cordial relation with local’
ITANAGAR, Jul 28: Reacting to a news report of the Papum Pare Unemployed Engineers Association (PPUEA) denying assault of NHPC staff by its president and four others, the NHPC authority today claimed that the assault incident did actually happen.
It further clarified that NHPC has no reason to tarnish the image of PPUEA and has always tried its level best to maintain very cordial relation with local people/organizations in the interest of the development of Arunachal and its people and the Nation as a whole.
Meanwhile, NHPC further clarified that “Litan Das, whom the members of the Association had assaulted, is not an employee of NHPC (as appeared in the news papers), but he is a contract helper engaged by NHPC through contractor M/s L. T. Enterprises, Zero Point Tinali, Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh”.

ITANAGAR, Jul 28: The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Lt. Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma
inaugurated a seminar on ‘Issues in Sino-
Presiding over the seminar, the Governor emphasized on building matching infrastructure in the North eastern states to balance what China has done in Tibet. He said strengthening it is a must to ensure peace and cordial relationship.
Citing connectivity as one of the major problem in the strategically located North east region, the Governor said other than Assam, only 66 km of railway line has been built in the region since Independence. Poor connectivity and infrastructures have posed serious problems in the developmental progress of Arunachal Pradesh, he added.
The Governor said that India has to look at China in a pragmatic manner because of a wide gap in the capabilities of the two countries.

NRHM nurses struggling hard to survive

ITANAGAR, Jul 28: The contractual GNM and ANM nurses working under National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) are struggling to make ends meet as they have not been paid their salary since the month of April 2013. Most of these nurses are posted in rural areas of state under difficult circumstances.
Despite submitting numerous memorandums and representation to minister, parliamentary secretary and NRHM authorities regarding their pathetic condition, these nurses are still yet to hear anything in this regard.
“To reach my posting place it takes one whole day. No one pays for my travelling expense and adding to that I have a family to feed. Also everyone is aware about escalation of prices of essential items. For the last four month we are struggling hard to survive. If our salary is not released at the earliest, we may die of starvation. Such is the situation now,” told a nurse working under NRHM. The NRHM nurses of state be it GNM or ANM are extremely underpaid in compare to those working in other states. The state government is not able to pay such meager amount of salary giving immense trouble to the nurses.
According to the source this situation is developing due to the failure of state government to pay the state matching share. Salaries of NRHM nurses are to be borne by both central and state governments. However it is alleged that since 2007, state govt has been erratic in paying their part of matching share. Whenever central fund is received, salaries are being released. However off late central govt is cautious to release fund. This is one of the reasons for the delay in releasing of salary. It is surprising, how state government is failing to take care the need of small number of NRHM employees.
The health department is facing acute shortage of manpower across the state. As
per the details there are about 419 health centre across the state and 233 existing
GNM nurses working in various government run health centre, while the actual requirement
is 1414 leading to the shortfall of 985. Similarly 419 ANMs are presently working
whereas the actual requirement is 896, a shortfall of 319. The situation of other

Quoting the recent Supreme Court Judgments, the Director of the Indira Gandhi Technological and Medical Sciences University, Arunachal Pradesh, Arvind Kumar Das said that he has seen through the recent newspaper reports that the clinical trials by foreign pharmaceutical companies in India have slowed down due to new Government rules that complicate testing for new drugs. The Government of India implemented rules recently that impose a new approval process for trials and compensation packages for patients who fall sick or die during testing.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India has signed the laws after it found in a probe last year that new drugs in some cases were being tested on patients without informing them. The probe was ordered by the Supreme Court after an NGO from Madhya Pradesh complained.
Earlier in 2012, a Parliamentary Committee claimed in a report that Central Drugs Standard Control Organization, the regulatory body that oversees India's drug market, approved the sale of several drugs that hadn't been tested on Indian patients, as required by law, Arvind K. Das further added.
VYS organizes voluntary blood donation camp
ITANAGAR, Jul 28: Thirteen persons, including a girl student from Dera Natung Govt. College, here have donated blood voluntarily in a blood donation program organized by Vivekananda Yuva Shakti (VYS), Arunachal Pradesh, Itanagar at RK Mission Hospital here today.
Inaugurating the program, Chief Councilor of Itanagar Municipality Higio Aruni highly appreciated Yuva Shakti for arranging the program and the blood donors for donating their best gift for the poor and needy patients. She personally met all the blood donors.
Vivekananda Yuva Shakti (VYS) Chairman Ramesh JK narrated the story of how he became inspired with voluntary blood donation to foster unity and brotherhood among people of different communities.
VYS President Jyoti Panka briefed about simple procedures of blood donation, its importance and cleared some myth associated with blood donation.
Hage Kobing from Ziro said that he took part in the blood donation camp to reciprocate the gesture of VYS as he received blood for his relatives earlier in the hour of need from the organization.
Bindung Dindo Nanya from Kurung Kumey informed that she too received blood free of cost from VYS team for her own people which inspired her to join the organization. Presently, she is an executive member of VYS.
Purnima Dangpong Rijiju, a teacher of Don Bosco School, Jullang, who led the students of her school for today’s program, is also an executive member of VYS.

Modernity and wailing of Lamas of Itanagar Gompa

Can anyone accept liquor and tobacco logically sharing spaces with holy place like Gompa ? Despite the expected answer is no, the reality is rather ironical in our state. His Holiness, the Buddhist monk Lobsang Tenzin Gyatso, the fourteenth Dalai Lama says “Buddhism is a path of reason and logical inquiry”. Hence, to arrive at a truth, it is provable; Gompa is a spiritual centre where both reason and logic are practised with a strengthened and a powerful mind.
Today Lamas of Itanagar Gompa laments “nuisance created by the wrongdoers are louder than our verse. Boys routinely gathering here are not good, if we inform the police they may wind up and even their parents may hopping mad upon us. We have been hurt and do not feel good in such circumstances. We use to inform the president of our Gompa Management Committee. Police sometime chase the boys but within no time it is made out as fruitless again. Largely, we regret for the tourists who come all the way from different states to see our beautiful landscape, rich culture and religious sanctity”.
This is the unheard cry of the Lamas at Itanagar Gompa today. Once, for the state capital, Gompa was a place of congregation; to delight one’s mind, evening walk and the nearest tourist spot for the visitors. The so called simplicity and humbleness of the tribal people residing in the capital city adds no grace towards beauty of this magical Gompa. We have made it a safe zone for smoking, drinking and for the love birds.
Are we really becoming nearer to wild biped. Modernity situates us unable to fundamentally differentiate holy place with a park, bar, club and pub. Punctilious Lamas are conditioned to helplessness. People from different places visit Gompa to get blessing and calmness. But on the contrary, they witness, smokes of incense and cigarette roll together and hundreds of beer bottles drained in a minute. Visitors are also spectators of thunderous bike stunt perform by youngsters that roar around the surrounding. Moreover, couples’ stretching on the railing at the curbing Gompa road is becoming routine exhibition.
The present day proviso of Gompa occupies no place in the discourse of intellectuals and civil society members. How long the so called civil, elite and educated society will pretend as if they know and see nothing at Gompa complex? Would we remain fame with our ancestral majesty forever? The truth is, the attitude and behaviour of young in each generation redefine a newer characteristic for a particular society.
Let us read the thoughts of Captain Sobhey and Rifleman Raju of Indian Army who visit Gompa every evening all the way by walking.
In an interaction they reacted, “Our wish is to readily serve and save the country from Kashmir to Arunachal. We believe in one God. So we visit sacred places like Mandir, Majjid, Church and Gompa located in diverse places. But what inexpressible here is that the visitors are intervened with nuisance. Local youth commits unwanted acts like smoking and drinking liquor gathering in such a sacred place without any sense of guilty. It is morally dangerous. We are really worried whose offspring are they? There must be parents and teachers at home and school who can impart knowledge that fits into their practical world. They are young, not pauper. The key is to control and turn their live into resource for the nation”.
Gazing for a while at Gompa is pitiable. One can get our true distinctiveness there. By birth children are not addicted, they learn from elders growing up gradually. Therefore partial blaming only upon the youth will never be the solution. We need a collective introspection. Let us understand the philosophy behind modernity rather than not just possessing and establishing a material world. Or else, suffering and bad names for the culture will be the consequence.
The urgency is to burden the responsibility and voluntarily address the concern by which a legal guard from such wrongdoings can be ascertained for this sacred place. Those who dirtied the surrounding of Gompa are our own, not visitors from outside. Had there been any authoritarian rules, we could have intercepted the wrongdoer. Dilapidated road condition
Dear Editor,
With due respect, we would like to inform the public that presently road condition
of Gandhi Bridge to Ramsing approach Road, which is the sole means of the communication
for the villagers and government officials/officers living and posted on the right
bank of Siang river is in dilapidated condition. Above that many people from left
bank of Siang are also using the said road as their main source of living. Also
the very approach road is lone life-
Further, the construction of V.K.V. at Ramsing Village is also going on in full swing,
for which transportation of construction materials and quarry etc. are totally dependent
on this approach road. Apart from that improvisation of the said road will ultimately
help in the on-

Create more drug inspector post
Dear Editor,
Through your esteemed daily I would like to lay down few lines. Presently, our state has 18 districts, which are having ONLY SIX (6) Drug Inspectors’. It has been more than a 10 long years has but not a single post for Drug Inspector has been recruited by authority concerned.
In your daily, Directorate of Health Services had notified the BANNED DRUG’S which is regulated by Drug Controller of our state through Drug Inspectors under section 26A of Drug and Cosmetic Act, 1940 and the Rules 1945, which is highly appreciable and commendable work done by them. But it is out most surprising that lots of substandard, adulterated as well as spurious, even ‘BANNED ‘ drugs and medicines has being circulated in our state which is not reported to the authority concerned. These drugs cause immense health hazards to denizens of state as slow poison. Thus, for our vast geographical area and scattered population we require of lots of dynamic as well as energetic youths to regulate above said purposes. However, the students from our state those who got selected in Joint Entrance Examination for Bachelor degree in Pharmacy courses hope that one day she/he will serve as a Drug Inspector after completion of course. But, it has become only a “DISTANT DREAM”, because most of them are unemployed or has joined in some other unsuitable profession for sustaining her/his livelihood.
So, I would like to highly appeal on behalf of Arunachal Registered Pharmacists Association (A.R.P.A) to the concerned Health Minister, Parliamentary Secretary for Health, Secretary of Health, and Directorate of Health Services, to look into matter hearing the grievances of aggrieved degree holder students (Bachelor of Pharmacy).

Pollution and Indian economy
A World Bank study released recently revealed that the annual cost of environmental degradation in India is about Rs 3.75 lakh crores, which is equivalent to 5.7 per cent of country's GDP.
Outdoor air pollution in urban areas alone claims 1.09 lakh lives of adults and another 7,513 of children below 5 annually, says a new World Bank study. The annual cost of environmental degradation in India is about Rs 3.75 lakh crores, which is equivalent to 5.7% of country's GDP, it points out.
Commissioned by the Central government the study underlines the perils of unfettered urban growth. Between them, outdoor and indoor air pollution accounts for 52 per cent of the environmental cost borne by the country. This is followed by cropland degradation (19%), water supply and sanitation (14%), pasture (11%) and forest degradation (4%).
This first ever national level economic assessment of environmental degradation in India focuses on particle pollution (PM10) from burning of fossil fuels, which has serious health consequences amounting to up to 3% of India's GDP along with losses due to lack of access to clean water supply, sanitation and hygiene besides natural resources depletion. The indoor air pollution is mainly due to burning of wood, mainly in rural India.
